AI Agents for Inbound Lead Qualification
What the job is
Inbound lead qualification starts when a lead reaches you and ends when a rep has it, with enough context to call that day.
End to end means the agent does all of that without a person copying data between tabs, and it's one of the five entry rules every agent here passed. A booking widget that shows every visitor the same calendar doesn't count, and neither does a chatbot that answers questions and stops.
Qualifying a lead doesn't have to mean scoring it. RevenueHero's help centre documents no lead score, and each form lead ends as Booked, Not Booked or Disqualified by rules that pass or fail.
Look at how a hot lead reaches a person. Going by their vendors' pages, some of these agents book the meeting on the spot or connect a live call, and others post a Slack alert for a rep to pick up.
None of these agents documents a step where a person approves a lead before it's written to the CRM or routed, so you're relying on the record of which rule sent each lead where. Ask how a rule change gets tested before it goes live, and what can be reversed; Clay's own Salesforce guide says its writes "cannot be undone".
Check your CRM against the plan you'd buy. Some of these agents keep CRM sync or record creation off their entry plan, and enrichment is often billed separately. Chili Piper's enrichment setup asks for your own account with a provider such as Apollo or ZoomInfo, and RevenueHero sells enrichment as an add-on to its Advanced plan.
Pricing runs on different units, so price each agent on your own volume. Clay prices its plans by the actions and data credits they include. Smith.ai counts every call its AI Receptionist answers toward your quota by default, with an allowance to remove up to 10% of a billing cycle's calls as spam.

When to have one built instead
An off-the-shelf agent is the wrong buy when the rules that make a lead worth calling live somewhere it can't reach. The integration lists here are built around CRMs, calendars, chat tools and data providers, and Clay, for one, adds data warehouses on its Growth and Enterprise plans. A fit check that needs stock levels or a customer's order history from your ERP means an HTTP call or webhook you wire up yourself (on Clay, also from Growth). Smith.ai's alternative is the custom integrations it lists on its Enterprise plan.
Channels can rule them out too. Inbound email isn't a native lead source in any of these agents' docs, and Smith.ai, the one that answers the phone, lists no web-form input, so enquiries that land in a shared inbox, or arrive by both phone and form, end up split across tools.
Data residency is another hard stop. RevenueHero and Clay say they process data mainly in the United States.
My sales operations post makes a custom inbound triage and enrichment agent the first build, at $20,000 to $35,000. Buying one of these agents and building only the gap is the middle case in my build versus buy framework. The whole agent is worth building when your scoring rules are the part that wins you deals, or when lead volume gets high enough that per-call or per-credit pricing costs more than running your own.
