What it does
Superhuman sorts an inbox two ways, and its help centre documents both: Email Assistant, which works inside Gmail or Outlook, and the Superhuman Mail app, a separate email client for Gmail and Outlook accounts.
Email Assistant gives every incoming email one of six labels, the help centre says: Respond, Waiting, FYI, Notifications, Promotions or News. In Outlook they show up as categories.
You choose which types of Notifications, News and Promotions get archived, such as receipts or cold sales outreach, and those stay out of the main inbox. All three categories are switched on for archiving at setup, with default exceptions. The help centre says mail labeled Respond, Waiting or FYI can't be archived automatically, and senders you've emailed before are left out of label-based archiving.
An Always archive list and a Never archive list override the categories for a person or a domain. Nothing is deleted: archived mail stays under its label, in search and in an Auto Archived folder, and a Daily Digest at 5pm lists what was moved.
It also drafts replies to mail that needs one and brings back sent mail that got no answer. Per the help centre, the drafts are never sent automatically.
In the Mail app, Split Inbox adds sections to the top of the inbox. The default pair is Important, for person-to-person and high-priority mail, and Other, for mailing lists, marketing, social and automated updates. You can add splits for VIPs, your team, newsletters or calendar mail, or build your own from search criteria or Auto Labels.
The app's built-in Auto Labels send Marketing, News, Pitch and Social mail to Other by default. You can write your own labels from rules such as the sender or subject on any plan, and from a plain-language prompt on Business.
Superhuman's November 3, 2026 post introducing Email Assistant says Auto Archive clears half of the average customer's inbox and Auto Labels pick out the 4% of email that needs a response.
Who it fits
Email Assistant fits one person who wants to stay in Gmail or Outlook. Its product page lists it at $12 a month billed annually or $15 billed monthly in November 2026, and you can add several Gmail or Outlook accounts. To put a whole team on it, Superhuman's launch post says to contact sales.
The Mail app suits a team willing to change email client. Superhuman Mail's plans page lists Starter at $25 and Business at $33 a member a month billed annually ($30 and $40 billed monthly) in November 2026, each for up to 25 seats.
Split Inbox and Auto Labels come with Starter. Prompt-written labels, Auto Drafts and the HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive integrations need Business, and Single Sign-On, SCIM provisioning and audit logs are Enterprise only.
Superhuman's customer stories include Brex and Deel, each listed at 1,001 to 5,000 employees.
Email Assistant keeps separate settings for each connected account, the help centre says. If the mail that needs sorting is a shared support queue that several people work, the triage and routing workflow in my customer support playbook is closer to that job.
I'd try Email Assistant first if sorting is all you want, and weigh the Mail app when the team also wants its shared conversations and comments. If you want labels you define yourself without changing email client, compare the other email triage agents.
Limitations
Email Assistant's six labels are a fixed set: its help centre says you can't turn one off, rename it or replace it. Removing a wrong label fixes that thread only and doesn't teach it to sort similar mail differently.
A change to the Auto Archive settings applies to new mail only, and in Gmail the spam filter can take priority over your Never archive list.
In the Mail app, prompt-written Auto Labels stop at 10, and a split can't be built from words in an email's body, per the help centre. For Gmail accounts it recommends turning on Gmail's smart features, which it says let Superhuman Mail sort mail into Important and Other.
Superhuman's privacy policy, effective July 6, 2026, says it uses the information it collects to train its AI models, with a training control in account settings. Mail's help centre says neither Mail nor any vendor trains on your data, and for accounts an employer manages, the policy says content is handled under that organization's contract instead. I'd ask which statement covers your plan before connecting a work inbox.
The help centre also says there's no logging specific to its MCP server, and nothing marks whether an action in your inbox came through it or from a person.
Price comes up in the reviews I could read: four of the 13 Product Hunt reviews shown mention it, and two App Store reviews from 2022 and 2023 call it expensive. On Trustpilot, five of the 12 reviews shown, all one star, are about cancelling, refunds or reaching support.

How it scores: 28 of 35
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Job fit and output quality | 4 of 5 | Help centre: each new email gets one of six labels, from Respond to News, and the low-priority types you pick are archived; the six can't be renamed or replaced |
| Setup time | 4 of 5 | Self-serve checkout, one onboarding; help centre: labels may appear in about 15 minutes, big inboxes can take two hours or longer; the Mail app is a new client |
| Price at small-business scale | 4 of 5 | Email Assistant is $12 a month billed annually in November 2026; the Mail app is $25 a member a month billed annually, $33 for prompt-written labels |
| Controls | 4 of 5 | Drafts never sent on their own, nothing deleted, a daily digest of archived mail, Always and Never archive lists; SSO, SCIM and audit logs on Enterprise only |
| Integrations | 4 of 5 | Gmail and Outlook accounts, HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive on Business, Zoom, Meet and Teams, Slack in beta, and an MCP server for AI tools on Business |
| Security evidence | 4 of 5 | DPA (July 2026) states SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001, EU SCCs and a named sub-processor list; BYOK on Enterprise; the trust center page wouldn't load as text |
| Independent user evidence | 4 of 5 | App Store 4.6 from 3,750 ratings, Google Play 4.5 from 744, Trustpilot 2.0 from 13, November 2026; none I found rates Email Assistant alone; G2 wouldn't load |
