Data handling and security
ContractSafe's security page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, AWS hosting, AES-256 and US, EU, Canada or Australia residency, and says contract data never trains public AI models. Its 2023 privacy policy says it takes steps to delete unneeded content within 12 months of termination.Read October 25, 2026: privacy policy, security page. Sources 6, 11, 12

What it does

ContractSafe is a contract repository whose AI Contract Review, its docs say, checks each contract against a playbook of your team's rules and marks every rule Pass or Fail.

Each failed rule comes with a plain explanation and a link to the clause, ContractSafe's feature page says. Suggested wording comes "when available", for your team to copy into a redline.

You build a playbook from a contract, from highlighted text, from a sample or from scratch, per the help centre, which recommends 10 to 25 rules when the AI drafts them from a contract. The feature page says rules the AI drafts need a reviewer to accept them before they join the playbook.

A run typically takes a few seconds, the help centre says. It also says the AI is deliberately biased towards Fail, because ContractSafe would rather flag a clause for your scrutiny than let a risky one pass.

Ask AI answers questions about a contract, and the AI Assistant suggests up to 29 data points, such as parties, key dates, payment terms and jurisdiction, according to ContractSafe's help centre.

ContractSafe's sub-processor list names Microsoft Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, OpenAI and Google Gemini for AI.

The pricing page lists the repository's search and reminders on every plan, e-signature from Finalize up, and templates and intake forms on Maximize.

Who it fits

ContractSafe fits a company that wants its contracts stored and reviewed in one place and will pay for the Maximize plan to get the AI review.

Paid monthly, the three plans were $540, $792 and $978 at 100 or fewer contracts on ContractSafe's pricing page in October 2026. At 100 to 500 contracts the same page listed Maximize at $960 a month paid yearly.

The pricing FAQ says there's no implementation charge. A Jump Start service, where ContractSafe's paralegals pull the data out of your existing contracts, was listed there from $2.50 per contract in October 2026.

ContractSafe's case studies include "a legal team of one" at Rugiet Health and the City of Olympia, with 600 employees. Its August 2026 press release says it's built for small and midsize organizations. I'd leave it off the list for a company under about 10 people, since Maximize suits a team that handles contracts every week.

Buying starts with a free trial form or a demo request. The site has no self-serve checkout that I could find.

If you only need the review, I'd compare the rest of the contract review shortlist before paying for a full repository.

Limitations

ContractSafe's feature page says its AI Contract Review "does not edit the document", so the review produces no redline of its own.

The playbook help page says the review isn't available on legacy pricing plans, and read-only users can't run a playbook.

Each check runs against the rule's definition, not the preferred language you store with it, the same page says.

Ask AI currently covers one contract at a time, up to about 100 pages, its help page says. Your chat isn't saved, and the page warns that scans, complex tables, exhibits kept as separate files and very long documents can weaken answers. It doesn't say that answers cite a clause or page.

The extraction guide warns that scanned documents run through OCR "may produce lower accuracy results." If most of your agreements are scans, I'd test that on the trial and agree numeric success metrics before you sign.

Ask AI isn't offered in Canada for now, the Ask AI help page says. For accounts hosted there, ContractSafe's data residency page says some AI features process data with US-hosted models, though contracts stay stored in Canada.

The audit trail page says some automated actions "may appear as done by the Account Owner."

ContractSafe's privacy policy, effective December 15, 2023, still lists SOC 2 Type I, while the security page says Type II. The same policy says ContractSafe may use your content to "evaluate, train and improve" its services.

Under the terms of use, you have 30 days after termination to ask for a file of your content, after which ContractSafe may delete it.
